Volunteering can be a great way to get out and meet new people while supporting the causes you believe in and using the skills you’ve learnt over the years.
Volunteers have a lot to offer our local community. These selfless people give their time, energy, and support helping people feel connected, but also adding a new dimension to their own lives.
Programs:
Meals on Wheels Program
Meals on Wheels aims to assist people to remain living independently for as long as possible. People may not be able to cook for themselves for a variety of reasons. Sometimes the service is received for a short time, although in most cases the meals are provided on an on-going basis. Meals on Wheels volunteers collect meals from our local hospital and deliver to people within the community seven days a week, with one run taking approximately one and a half hours to complete. The satisfaction of doing something practical, yet personal is a reward in itself.
Social Connections Program
The Social Connections Program is aimed at people who are socially isolated or are at risk of social isolation. The program helps to assist people to reconnect with their community by attending excursions and centre-based activities that focus on mental and physical stimulation.
The program aims to enhance the social and physical wellbeing of participants in a pleasant group environment. Lunch and morning tea is served, and transport is provided if required. Each program is designed to respond to the individual needs of participants. Social connections volunteers can assist with serving meals, gardening tasks, activities and client outings.
Telephone Chat or Friendly Visits
We are looking at a variety of ways to connect people living within the Community with others. In the New Year, Westmont will be looking at sourcing volunteers who would like to chat to someone on the phone or perhaps visit them in their home, providing them with an essential social network, sharing their ideas, thoughts, hopes and dreams, or just reminisce about days gone by, forming friendships along the way.
If you would like to be part volunteers team, please contact our Community Care Volunteer Coordinator – Kristene Gardner on 02 6043 9867. All enquiries are welcome.
