Westmont Newsletter Winter Edition – Issue 20

A Message from the CEO

Westmont Aged Care Services Board of Directors and Managers recently conducted its annual Strategic Planning Day. This day helps set the strategic directions for the organisation for the medium to longer term.

A number of new initiatives will now be further defined to provide more and better services to our residential and community care clients. As a general guide we are working towards more services for people with dementia both residential and community based, but an increase across the Board in all service areas.

As the projects come to fruition details will be announced to ensure all members of the “Westmont family” are kept up to date.

Peter de Koeyer, CEO

Homestead Happenings

Residents continue to enjoy a busy and stimulating lifestyle at The Homestead. Care needs are becoming more complex, but we continue to provide care that is respectful of, and responsive to individual needs.

We have welcomed several new staff to the care team. They have settled in well, and feel comfortable working at Westmont.

Staff have had several training sessions this year, updating their knowledge and skills in a variety of areas.

To continuously monitor our clinical performance we participate in an ex-ternal audit, which benchmarks our results. The audit summary showed we have improved in several areas e.g. falls and pressure injuries.

The audit reviews our clinical practice, and gives us guidance in the areas we need to drive further improvement. Continuous quality improvement is important to us to ensure outcomes are improved for our residents.

Angela McInnes, Director of Care and Clinical Services

Our Resident and Client surveys con-firm we continue to provide very good care and services, with overall satis-faction results as follows:

  • Homestead – 88%
  • Apartments – 93%
  • Village – 95%
  • Community Care – 94%

Amanda Payne, Director of Quality, Education and Administration

The Homestead has an occupancy of 100%. We have only had the move-ment of five residents in the last six months.

Our waitlist for permanent placement is very extensive, and respite is heavily booked. Please feel welcome to con-tact me on 02 6043 9999 to discuss your future planning for residential and respite care at the Homestead.

Homestead Activities

Here at Westmont Homestead, cakes and causes are two of our favourite things – We always look forward to hosting a Biggest Morning Tea in support of Cancer Council Australia’s research, prevention and support services and this year’s fundraiser, held in May, was our most successful yet! $426 was raised in a fun-filled and rewarding morning. Food Services put on a marvellous spread of cup cakes, slices and biscuits so we could all ‘raise a cuppa’ for this worthy cause. ‘The Music Man’, Bob McCracken, entertained us with his superb vocals and there were lucky door prizes galore.

Well done, everyone!

Julie Hovey, Activities Coordinator

Community Care

Community Care has been very busy with some clients receiving letters from My Aged Care, being “Approved or Offered” Home Care Packages. Home Care Packages offer clients a broader range of services and more choice about what services they receive and who delivers those services.

If you have received a letter from My Aged Care and would like some help to work out what it means for you, or to talk to someone about it, please call the office on 6043 9867 and Ann or Rhianna can assist you with detailed information. Westmont can offer case management services and advocate on your behalf to ensure you get the services you need from your Home Care Package, as well as service delivery to meet your needs. If you would like to know more about how to access a Home Care Package, we can provide you with a booklet to help you work out the next step for you.

May was a very busy month with almost 5,900 hours of services provided and over 1,500 meals delivered to clients. Please contact us with feedback about the services you receive, we appreciate hearing your thoughts.

Village Voice

A six week program of Life Ball was started in May with a number of Villa residents participating. Colleen Lord founder of the game and three staff members of Sport North East attended our first morning session on the bowls green at the Community Centre with Sport North East returning each week to encourage and umpire.

I encourage residents interested in fresh air, a bit of exercise and an easy walking game to come along on Wednesdays – more residents, the merrier the mornings!

Stage 5 of the Village development is almost full! 4 sites are left in this area , and two are left in Stage 4. Waiting lists are now being created for the future possible move-ins to Westmont Village.

Stage 5 is being pegged out for the start of Villa construction and the waterway is being designed and winter landscaped between Stage 4 and 5.

A warm welcome to all our new Residents who have recently joined the Westmont family.

You are welcome to contact me on 6043 9832 to discuss your possible future living at Westmont.
